The Art of Editing: Episode 6
In this episode of the art of editing
As a photographer everyone has to start out knowing absolutely nothing and over time you start to learn more and more techniques, gather better and better gear and ultimately achieve the photography success you are looking for. This image is one of those images that was simply unattainable by me a number of years ago because I had no field experience with long exposures or an understanding of how to capture one.
This image was a fun image to capture as pedestrians were walking on the sidewalk behind me as I send up the intensive process of capturing this long exposure. As you can see in the before and after above, the raw image SOOC (straight out of camera) was nothing to write home about because of the colours and rather boring elements that dominate the image. What inspired me to capture and process this image was the illusion of how immense the pillars were and “white” walls of the public library. I used an ultra wide lens that does not correct for extreme distortion which I used to my advantage in enhancing the massive Pillars. After I corrected the white balance for the imposing orange light, the library started to take shape as a really beautiful image.
