The splendid preset is designed to do three main things.

  1. Direct your attention to the center of the image by using the circular gradient tool.

The nature of this preset is to add brightness to the entire image so that the circular gradient tool will direct your eyes to the center of image. The default setting will make the whole image brighter.  When you add the circular gradient it will pull the focus to the center of the image: the circular gradient works by  darkening the outsides of the image and keeping the center bright.

  1. Designed to add warmth through split toning and a warmer white balance.

The focus on the selected tones is designed to emphasize warmth in the final image. The split toning adds a yellow orange tone to the highlights and a yellow green to the shadows. You may need to make some adjustments to fine-tune the settings to your desired warmth.

  1. Designed to give you a softer feel: more of a vintage or matted look for your landscape.

The vintage or matted look is a stylistic adjustment to give your image a specific feel. To get this stylistic look we adjusted the blacks and highlights in the tone curve. By limiting the intensity of the blacks you are able to achieve that faded blacks look common with in the matted style. The highlights are increased to allow for the image to become much brighter which intensifies the effect of the circular gradient.

I hope that the Splendid preset can become a staple in your editing tool box and that it can become a useful starting point for many of your edits.

Thanks for checking out Freelightroomtutorials.com and I hope you have a great day.
